Arciaga Peregrina’s passion for medicine stems from her love of meeting, interacting with, and helping people. Formerly a chief resident during her training and Anesthesiology Clerkship Program Director, her collaborative nature has made her a leader among doctors, nurses and support staff at the University of California in Los Angeles and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, where she is currently Associate Clinical Professor.
In addition to her teaching commitment to residents and students, Dr. Arciaga maintains her clinical skills by personally delivering perioperative care for high-risk patients at Martin Luther King and Kaiser Hospitals. Her continuing commitment to patient safety makes her ideally suited for her expanding role in patient simulation. A regular presenter at the Society for Simulation in Healthcare conference and Director of the Charles Drew Simulation Center, she finds the opportunity to help others maintain and improve their skills without putting an actual patient at risk “incredibly rewarding.”
Dr. Arciaga’s professional goal is as simple as it is selfless: “I hope I can serve as role model for students on how to practice medicine with an emphasis on patient safety. The next generation of doctors must able to combine their medical knowledge, technical skills, and ability to work together to take care of sick patients, hopefully even better than us.”
